Australia's summer sporting landscape looks a lot different this year.
Australia's only summer sport and Australia's national pastime cricket seems to be fading with local interests. Just looking at the grounds this year. I've never seen so many empty chairs at a test match in Australia.
Cricket seems to have plenty of problems at the moment, mainly due to the fact that Australia are light years away from there closest opposition.
Their next biggest problem comes from Australian soccer/football. The A-league is booming and a competitive entertaining competition makes for an enjoyable alternative summer sport. There is one round left in the A-League season before finals and the Qld Roar have a real chance of taking the title.
Good luck to the mighty Roar hit em' for six

yeah good stuff mickus.. go the roar. my bet is the boys will take home the minor premiership.. but we'll need luck and the bounce of the ball to take the flag.
as for the cricket... well i've seen and heard enough now to throw my 2 bobs worth in.. and i'm a little disappointed in you wickus.. for joining the typical tradition of beating down the tall poppies.. c'mon.. yes i agree that the aussies don't always play in the spirit of the game.. but we're gunning for a record.. and besides.. name me a team that does continue the tradition of the gentlemans game. i certainly cant. that went out the window in the dawn of professionalism. i enjoy the tuff onfield presence the aussies display. it's always been a part of our game. i remember when i was growing up.. watching the domination of west indian cricket teams... they sauntered around the park.. flayed their bats.. eyeballed batsman from 7ft in the air.. bowled cut-throat deliveries.. and taunted their opponents.. australians called them arrogant.. but only because they were too good for us.. we could hardly compete.
now the tables are turned.. and we are the unbeatables.. touring captains and their adoring publics will say anything to upset the apple cart.. they don't wish to be on the recieving end of a dubious record.. they want to be like us.
they want to be dominant.. why is it that the vast majority of test teams are seeking out aussie coaches to teach them the tricks of the trade???
recognise excellence... enjoy this golden era of australian triumph.. coz it all goes around... and one day, in the not too distant future.. we'll be the ones chasing the game. nothing lasts forever.
i just hope we can maintain the rage, and polish the curries up with some ferocious short stuff in perth... re-write the record books.. then think about walking, or whether or not you took that catch..
go straya!!!
