CREE INDIAN PROPHECY

Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will man find that Money cannot be Eaten.

Carole King Tickets on Sale Tues 29

Carole King's "Living Room Tour" goes on sale tomorrow. Carole King's Tapesry is one of my favourite albums of all time. It was released the year I was born and was the highest selling album of its era staying in the charts for six years.

Her U.S. tour was given rave reviews and has been described as pure bliss.

The show primarily features performances at the piano spanning songs from her phenomenal 40 plus-year career, songs like "It's Too Late", "You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)", "You've Got a Friend", "Where You Lead I Will Follow", "I Feel The Earth Move", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow",

The outdoor concert will be held at the river stage on Friday November 24 and is sure to be a gem of a night. This is Carole's first time to our shores.

TOP TIP - THE FOX HOTEL - SOUTH BRISBANE

Thanks to an underground tip from another fixer (Shazzy a.k.a. Rusty), Salmeister, a friend from the UK and I just happened to be cruising around Southbank yesterday when we decided to go and check out the new Fox Hotel.

For those of you that need a prompting,, remember the Terminus or the Sly Fox... Right opposite the QPAC Theatre on Melbourne Street (I think...Is that the street??)..

This place has been done up and all I can say is WOW. Finally there is a new place in brisbane worth talking about and I mean, very very Impressive!

Starting for the bottom......

Bottom Floor - Fine dining, chic atmoshpere, think marbled floors with long beautilful bars and classic diving.
Second Floor - The Lounge - think long smokey leather couches in all colours, 3 or 4 private rooms each with their own leather couches including private pool tables.
Third Floor - Private function room to be opened in 2007
Top Floor -Wait for it... Open air bar on the top floor overlooking Brisbane. Long benches fitting 7-8 stolls around each. In the middle of the bench there are grillers so you can drink and throw down a prawn or two (or similar). A DJ in the corner playing groovy funky house tunes and on this day we had a flauntist wailing out along to the musak as the breeze and afternoon sun crept over the terrace.

I havent been so impressed with a place in a long time. It really is a place we all must check out!

Thank you Shazzy. Who's up for a drink soon?

BLUEY???

The Bluester!
He was a leader of the pack and a master of his craft not so long ago! He stopped people in their tracks and trampled over those who dared to get in his way.. What has come of him lately? Has time been his biggest foe? Or is he moving aside and letting others have their day?? BUT whatever you do dont mock the jester as we have all had our turn at being clowns...

Politician swaps places with rockstar

Listening to the ABC lately I heard a couple of interviews that really surprised me.

Firstly, this week is Small Business Week and the NSW premier Hon. Morris Iemma spent yesterday working in a coffee shop. When asked by a reporter, What is your favourite coffee? Hon. Morris Iemma replied "I love a short macchiato with a shot of sambucca. It is a great way to start the day but I would not recommend lighting the sambucca"

Way to go Premier!!!!

Today I heard an interview with a member of the Panda Band, it was early this morning when the interviewer, expecting a hungover guest, asked if the rockstar was feeling ok? The rockstar replied "I'm fine I didn't drink last night we had a two hour drive home."
The reporter then asks if he was the designated driver. Rockstar replies "no. I just think it is a hastle for everyone if I have to stop to relieve myself every 15 minutes"

Pissed poliiticians, righteous rockstars... What next?

Colisa Course

Well fixers, Col & Isa are off early tomorrow morning for beautiful Ireland.

Personally both will be sorely missed, even though I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked with Col and Isa the moments we did share are all fond memories and I am looking forward to the time when we join forces again.

Isa and Col now have their own blog called Colisa Course so store it in you favourites. The Weatherpixie in Colisa Course's sidebar is set for Dublin Airport conditions.

Colisa Course has been added to the Fix's sidebar.

If any fixers use the firefox browser you can set multiple homepages that will open in seperate tabs, so you can have several sites open automatically.

TESTING TESTING

I'm just testing this out, have wanted to blog for ages, but always forget my password or the access details...so here goes:

When you're dead you're dead - so become an organ donor.
It's easy and don't forget to tell family & friends
(By the way Mark, I'm a donor)

Medicare

Australia is one of the worst donor countries in the 1st world. You may need my liver one day...or I may need yours. Let's help each other and give the gift of life.

CLASSIC QUOTE - HMMMMMM??

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."

Positions Wanted - Streakers, Beer Can throwing Yobbos

ATTENTION BRISBANE FIXERS
HOUND DOG'S cricket team is in the final of their comp and if you’re interested in coming along and causing grief for the other team, Hound would be more than happy to have you along …
Shane is also in the team if you know him

There’s a small hill surrounding the field, so if you’re not doing anything, come along and pelt some beer cans and clap ol houndie in as he runs in to bowl off the long run …

The game is from 11:30am Saturday/Sunday 25/26th August at Marchant Park near Kedron/Aspley …. probably the best time would be early on the Saturday afternoon …. before Hound runs out of puff and does his back in …

Hope some of you can make it … there’ll probably be a bbq there if you want a feed …
Sal & I are confirmed. How could you miss the opportunity to see the ol dog in action!?! If you can make it post a comment and we'll form a crew. The Saturday arvo session sounds like the ticket...

THAILAND'S A TRIP!!!

Greetings from Patong, Phuket Fixers!

I must say it tis a joy to be back in Thailand. I have been getting a lot of joy laughing at the uniqueness of the Asian way of life and their attmpts to copy the west. This morning I receievd a letter from the front desk apologising for the "Brow Water". I have eaten way too much Fried Rice just because I love hearing "Flied Lie". And the Thai's get a huge kick out of my name because Tyler sounds just too close to "Thaila".

But this afternoon's little venture takes the cake.

After my last official meeting with the crew from The World (the cruise ship I was having meetings with) I waved goodbye to my clients on the streets of Patong and wondered what to do next? Since this was the relaxing end of the journey I thought I might start off with a 1 Hour Thai massage (bht$200 - aud$5.00 - $6.00). I walked into the first place I could find and was led upstairs to the top room of the establishment. I walked into an airconditioned room which was sectioned off by curtains. Each space was just wide enough to fit a single matress which was on the ground. Nothing strange so far as I have had many the massage and this is the norm.

There was the usual giggle and small groans comings from most sections which again didnt phase me as some of the positions in Thai massage can leave you out of breathe. I was told to strip and put on fishing pants which again wasnt out of place. Anyway, the Thai girl started at my feet and soon was massaging my legs and working her way up my body (still nothing strange). Some of the grunts got louder and the person next to me seemed to be out of oxygen. Wanting to get the most out of the massage I closed out all the background noise and concentrated on enjoying the massage. I had just found my zen when I heard whispered in my ear; "Hey Mister, massage pee pee?" I couldnt help but laugh at the realisation of the type of massage parlor I had just walked into. I smiled and said in the nicest possible way, "Madam only one girl gets to massage my pee pee and she unfortunately is not in Thailand." The Thai girl's face screwed up and she retorted "Your girlfriend never know Mister". I thanked the girl very much but said even though she was a very pretty girl I would have to turn her down. I really couldnt be bothered to go into the laws and notions of the self consciousness.

My massage finshed very quickly after that and I was hustled out of the parlor. Its been along time since I have been offered the ol Asian Happy Ending!

Back on the streets of Patong I very quicky mixed in with the DVD and imitation Armani Suit peddlers and slowly moved towards a bar for a cold Singha....

Ahhhh,,,,, Thailand, your a trip in every aspect..

PS - Excuse the spelling. I am in Thailand after all!!

COL'S HOLE

Brisbane Fixer's may remember that Col was working on a tunnel that spanned the Brisbane River. From memory the diameter of the hole was 1.2 metres to be used for a new sewerage line for the West End poo heads. The tunnel had a slight gradient running down to West End which helped drainage in construction.

Just on completion (before the sewerage pipes were laid) Col took Sal and myself 30 metres down the hole at West End and through to the Park Road. The tunnel at the deepest point of the river was only 2.5 metres from the bottom. We rolled up the tunnel in flat bed trays, enjoyed a drink then lifted our feet and coasted back down.

It was quite the experience and probably the only time I will ever go beneath the Brisbane River.

Check out the photos....

SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST NATURALS

At the markets on Saturday Bear Manton gave her daughter Nina a few tips on how to perfect the Mong and I have to say Nina does it better than most.

Up & Coming Film - "WIL"

A friend of a Fixer passed this review onto me and I have to say I found it rather intriguing to say the least. I am not sure when it comes out (September-ish) but it might be worth a viewing.

See what you think?????

Wil is the story of how we live every moment of life inside our own head. Irrespective of what?s going on around us we are often so consumed by our own thoughts nothing else seems to exist. Every decision, no matter how big or small is met with a choice. A choice between what we think is important and what society thinks is important, a choice between what we?ve been conditioned to believe and what we truly believe and a choice between what we want and what we need. This is a philosophical journey into one mans mind as he tries to discover what ?The Meaning of Life? is.

Set totally inside a lift, this surrealistic, off-beat comedy is about Wilbur Schindle, Wil, an ordinary accountant with some extraordinary thoughts. Wil has been offered a promotion, the catalyst to reassessing his life.

Wil enters the lift.

The lift represents Wil?s mind, the chamber of his inner most thoughts. As Wil grapples with life?s conundrums he imagines himself in different scenarios, the lift changes into the corresponding place, yet always remains recognisably a lift.
With the sensibility of ?Being John Malcovitch?, the same number of locations as ?Phone Booth? and the vibrant colour scheme of ?Amelie?, ?Wil? is a journey through the mind of every man who?s ever contemplated their existence.

Once in Wil?s mind we see him challenge his basic beliefs and ideals, why is he in the job he?s in? Why does he have the wife he does? Does he need a wife at all? Why is he the way he is?

Wil encounters all sorts of characters from family members, to a supermodel ? even god, grappling with what type of person he really wants to be. With each positive affirmation comes a negative consequence and the rope holding the lift up unravels bit by bit, till Wil is literally hanging by a thread. Wil finally concludes that detachment from worldly needs and desires is what will make him truly happy.

Wil?s mind is now still, the lift empty, until a Zen master enters, informing Wil he?s on the path to enlightenment. Passing a few simple tests the Zen master is confident that Wil is ready.
The lift rope finally snaps signifying detachment from everything. Wil is enlightened.
As the lift comes crashing back to earth Wil is brought back to reality and the offer of a promotion.

Will he or wont he take the job?
