WEEKLY FIX PAGES

Al Bore!

After listening to Borgus hype up An Inconvenient Truth, a man whose words I never seem to disagree with, I eagerly headed of with Jamesy to see the 'must see' movie of the year.

The movie started brilliantly with Al Gore using an iBook and Apple's Keynote presentation software. Delivering a presentation to an audience hanging off his every word. I was really looking forward to watching a presentation about global warming.

Just as the presentation started to get interesting the movie turned to an unfortunate death of Al gore's son, before returning back to the presentation. The rest of the movie took this pattern to digress from the topic only to return to a presentation that delivered information that we have all heard over and over.

I beleive in Al Gore and think he is doing a fantastic job.

Sorry to disagree with you Borgus but I thought this movie was boring and I'm giving it a 2/5.

firstly mickus i must say that i love the fact that you're prepared to publicly disagree with tyler on this one and put your name to it -> which carries far more weight than being anon...
but on that note good on the anonymouses too because at the end of the day there's been a lot of discussion on the weekly fix of late and that's what it's all about.

what was my point? oh yeah... i disagree with your summary of boring -> i found the movie very watchable and whilst the placement of all the personal vignettes was a bit questionable it certainly didn't make the movie uninteresting..
And these too had impact: Wasn't there a moment when they showed him losing the election to Bush where it hit you quite powerfully that the world would be a strikingly different place if Gore had won? in regards to the environment, kyoto, terrorism, iraq, the reponse to 9/11 - > everything? Almost like there is a parallel universe and we got the fucked up Bush version.
just for interest i read somewhere that gore didn't necessarily expect the personal angle to be persued in the movie like it was..

you say that the movie presented info that we have all heard over and over but i think the problem is that actually a majority of people haven't. Don't assume that the rest of the public is anything like the circles you mix in cos it aint. And if all the hype and all the publicity surrounding al gores visit to promote this film means that Darryl Bogan, who wouldn't noramlly see a movie like this, goes along to see what all the fuss is about and learns a little - well then its worth more than 2/5..

Shagga, the other thing that annoyed me was when Al Gore did mention the election. Al was far too modest.

Bush invoked a law where if you had a criminal record your vote did not count. Then the Bush administration hired a database company to collect names of people with criminal records to strike them off the register.

Where bush cheated was if your name was the same or even similar to a name with a criminal record and you did not vote for the Bush administration your vote was stricken from the record.

The election was rigged (story according to SBS), why couldn't he mention that.

I might have been a bit hard with the 2/5 but I was trying to sound like the movie show, disagreeing with the Borgus.

I applaud Venezuelan head Hugo Chavez, and support his comments labelling Goerge W as the devil himself at yesterdays u.n meeting. Good on you Hugo.
A U.S. spokesman afterwards slammed Mr. Chavez... and questioned his right to say what he thinks... by stating that the U.S.A at least gave it's citizen freedom of speech, unlike the citizens of Venezuela. Tell that to the teenager who was not allowed to board a flight in LAX until he removed his 'fuck bush' t-shirt. Hypocrites. Hugo also made reference to the impending downfall of the U.S Empire, and how much better a place the world will be once this has happened. He's a brave man. I like him so.

It's a shame Mickus that you didnt even like the movie enough that you wouldnt even give it a 2.5 for content purposes but that is what this movie is about isnt it? Seeing it and forming your own opinion.
In a way I am that Darryl Bogan as I knew the climate crisis was out there but I was ignorant to how important an issue it is at present. It changed the way I look at things so I am opposite and will give it a 4.5 for the sake of rating it.
Mickus, I am coming over to your pad tonight so I look forward to discussing this further over a cold brew as we watch the Broncs smash the Doggies.
In other news Richard Branson has been affected by the current situation of climate crisis so much that he has injected $4 Biliion dollars into research and development (mainly bio-fuel research a renewable energy source). Good on you fella...
By the way.... How did we get stuck in the fucked up Bush universe. Is there anyway of jumping portals into the other?

apparently john howard has now agreed to go and see An Inconvenient Truth...

maybe he is embarrassed by Branson's megabuck pledge.. and the fact that Rupert Murdoch is also onboard which means lots of editorials sympathetic to the cause..you can run but you can't hide johnny.. the sooner you face up to this the better leader you make...
