COL'S HOLE

Brisbane Fixer's may remember that Col was working on a tunnel that spanned the Brisbane River. From memory the diameter of the hole was 1.2 metres to be used for a new sewerage line for the West End poo heads. The tunnel had a slight gradient running down to West End which helped drainage in construction.

Just on completion (before the sewerage pipes were laid) Col took Sal and myself 30 metres down the hole at West End and through to the Park Road. The tunnel at the deepest point of the river was only 2.5 metres from the bottom. We rolled up the tunnel in flat bed trays, enjoyed a drink then lifted our feet and coasted back down.

It was quite the experience and probably the only time I will ever go beneath the Brisbane River.

Check out the photos....
