A friend of a Fixer passed this review onto me and I have to say I found it rather intriguing to say the least. I am not sure when it comes out (September-ish) but it might be worth a viewing.
See what you think?????
Wil is the story of how we live every moment of life inside our own head. Irrespective of what?s going on around us we are often so consumed by our own thoughts nothing else seems to exist. Every decision, no matter how big or small is met with a choice. A choice between what we think is important and what society thinks is important, a choice between what we?ve been conditioned to believe and what we truly believe and a choice between what we want and what we need. This is a philosophical journey into one mans mind as he tries to discover what ?The Meaning of Life? is.
Set totally inside a lift, this surrealistic, off-beat comedy is about Wilbur Schindle, Wil, an ordinary accountant with some extraordinary thoughts. Wil has been offered a promotion, the catalyst to reassessing his life.
Wil enters the lift.
The lift represents Wil?s mind, the chamber of his inner most thoughts. As Wil grapples with life?s conundrums he imagines himself in different scenarios, the lift changes into the corresponding place, yet always remains recognisably a lift.
With the sensibility of ?Being John Malcovitch?, the same number of locations as ?Phone Booth? and the vibrant colour scheme of ?Amelie?, ?Wil? is a journey through the mind of every man who?s ever contemplated their existence.
Once in Wil?s mind we see him challenge his basic beliefs and ideals, why is he in the job he?s in? Why does he have the wife he does? Does he need a wife at all? Why is he the way he is?
Wil encounters all sorts of characters from family members, to a supermodel ? even god, grappling with what type of person he really wants to be. With each positive affirmation comes a negative consequence and the rope holding the lift up unravels bit by bit, till Wil is literally hanging by a thread. Wil finally concludes that detachment from worldly needs and desires is what will make him truly happy.
Wil?s mind is now still, the lift empty, until a Zen master enters, informing Wil he?s on the path to enlightenment. Passing a few simple tests the Zen master is confident that Wil is ready.
The lift rope finally snaps signifying detachment from everything. Wil is enlightened.
As the lift comes crashing back to earth Wil is brought back to reality and the offer of a promotion.
Will he or wont he take the job?
