What is 'Queensland Spirit'? How can one define it? Or indeed, how can one bottle it?
Could it simply be put down to a little brother/big brother complex?Born from decades of constant beatings, humiliations, and predjudice. Do Queenslanders have an inferiority complex? Possibly. But if that were the case, how could it be possible that the little brother so often overcomes the fancied bigger? It shouldn't ordinarily be the case. Maybe that's it... little brothers victories come in extraordinary fashion. Indeed. But with such regularity, that one can't really call them extraordinary. It's the norm. So where does it come from? Is it fed to us by an arrogant opponent, a biased media, selection injustices? Or is it just because the ball rarely seems to bounce our way? All of these things are infuriating... is pure rage and hatred the driving force behind this 'spirit'? Aggression helps, but theres gotta be more to it than that.
How can it be that little brother has a relative mortgage on the defining moments of this ongoing saga?
Without them there would be no us. Surely they are capable of the same human reaches, the same depths. It can't be because our hearts are bigger... could it?
Is it in our colours? Maroon, our badge of honour, like blood. Our blood. Is it in our blood?
Blue blood by name and nature, is pampered, conceited, and in the end complacent. And they can't change that.
If it's in our blood, what exactly makes ours so special? Why don't we suffer from complacency?
Maybe we've never had the luxury of being in that situation...... Little brother...
