New Tunes

Preetika and I were at the JW Marriot a few days ago and were introduced to two Aussie lads havin' a go and makin' some live chilled out tunes for the patrons. They're called Tijuana Cartel from the Gold Coast where they had the Thursday slot at Mybar. The blurb below is from their myspace site www.myspace.com/tijuanacartelband

"SPANISH guitars don't exactly go with funky beats the way fish go with chips, but breaks four-piece Tijuana Cartel is showing the world just how good the combo can sound.

In an era where appropriation is worn almost like a badge of honour, this Gold Coast act buck the trend and continue to expand, experiment and draw influence from an ever-widening circle of world and club sounds.

Vocalist and lead guitarist Paul George's flamenco strings slither over some tastefully broken beats on the bands two albums - a self-titled 2003 debut and the 2005 follow-up Frequent Flyers.

The new record brings splashes of Middle Eastern vocals to the mix, alongside some lilting Moby-esque soundscapes and get-up-and-dance beatfests - a club-friendly selection without a dull moment."

If this is the kind of music you'd like in your collection keep clicking and check a similar effort by the same guys under the name George and O'Sullivan.
www.myspace.com/georgeandosullivan
This one sounds like chilled electronic fantasy with overtones of ancient acoustic sounds.

Influenced by: Kruder and Dorfmeister, Buddah Bar, Oka, Rodrigo and Gabreilla, Groove Armada, Anuska Shankar, Melanie George, Massive attack,Plump Dj's, Chemical Brothers, Tiff, Strunts and Farah, Ravi Shankar, Chrystal Method, Chuck D, The Last Poets,N.W.A, Krafty, Tool, The Greys, Bowser, The Post Moderns, The Pixies, Nitin Sawney,Air, Morcheeba, Tparty

A PERRRRFECT MOMENT IN TIME

Several fixers had a lovely day on Currumbin Beach yesterday. Woody, Kim, Guy, Sky, Max, Matty (you might remember him from the very first FEAR), Sal and myself all enjoyed an afternon at the beach chillin....

The highlight of the day was a late afternoon lesson in how to catch a seagull. Aparently you should dig a hole in the sand then cover yourself with a towel so that no skin is showing. Your assistant should then cover your chest with bread/chips etc and when the gulls land on your chest for a feed..BANG.... you quicklywrap your arms round your chest and you should have a gull intact.

We almost got there folks but Max and Georga (Matty's little un) couldn't resist upsetting the situation just when the gulls were almost within striking territory. Next time... It was evident that it was definately possible.

Loads o fun................

IT'S A FIXERS' WORLD

As most of you know one of the annual aspects of my work role is the overseas sales mission I conduct each and every April. This affords me the opportunity to catch up with overseas fixers should they be in place easily accesible locations that fall in line with the areas I need to go to meet with clients. This year I was lucky enought to meet up with the Ash factor in Vancouver/Whistler and a larger clan of misfits - Isa, Bear, Col, Mez and even Mel G in London. I therefore am now able to speak first hand as I have now visited the habitats of the fixers overseas.

Ash is in fine form and as usual is "up for it bruvas"..... He remains a captain of the friendly skies and flies his copters on a daily basis. He is focusing on getting his "long line" credentials which involves skillfully being able to carry heavy and quite cumbersome materials suspended on a 50 mtr steel line attached to his helicopter. Quite tricky and dangerous folks. Once he has that the world's his oyster and we might even see him back here if we are lucky. He is also possibly looking at purchasing an investment house in Golden which is a ski mountain in the boonies of Canada. His spare time is taken up snowboarding, ice biking, hiking and whatever else there is to do when you live in a town in the middle of bum fuck nowhere without a constant flow of appealing women. Ahhhhhh, it twas good to see him and the latest rumour is that we might see him back in the motherland some time next year..........

Over to London now.... As you no doubt have seen from the blog below Breeza is hooked up in Mornington Cresent at the mo in a stylish little one bedroom bedsit. I think I spoke to soon as since that posting she has been robbed. The thing is that the stupid wankers left Breeza's most prized possesion in her bose ipod stereo and ipod so there was a little good from a lot bad. Breeza is back in market research working with a great bunch of peeps. Apparently her workplace "recreation area" is outa this world with the latest play station, massage seats and everything else one would neeed to keep their employees happy and at work. Lucky girl..... Col is still over in Thurles and plans to join her in August once his contract completes. Col was in top form the night we had out morphing from time to timë to his alter ego "da horse" then remorphing back to his human form to only suggest to you one needed another jager skull to partner the one you had only had not five minutes prior. Nice one maaaaaaaaaaate...

Well Bear and Mez have great stories and they are now in the final stages of purchasing a small two bedder unit in Hackney with their room mates Will & Nat. All going well they might be moving into their new home sometime in June. Will and Nat are solid people - kiwis.... but apart from that good people none the less. Being somewhat younger and still in their twenties Bear, Mez, Nat & Will live in one of the party houses of Camden and its not an unfamilar occurance for their house to be rocking until all hours any day of the week. Ahhhhh London, it don't matter what night, what day, what year..... there is always a beer and a friendly face just round the corner...... Both Bear and Mez are really happy and it was great to see them. In typical fashion I went to the pub just after lunch with Bear and on the day I was flying out. By the time I left his presence I was both suitably late and drunk for my flight home which caused a few nervous minutes in making it to the airport on time and in some sort of presentable fasion. Good Stuff...

So thats just a tiny snippit of news from afar... I am sure there is more to tell but I need to leave some things for when we catch up in person..

I thought you might like this?

The Universe does not know if the vibration you are offering is because of what you are imagining, or because of what you are observing. In either case, it is responding. Where emotion comes in is that emotion is your guidance or your response to your vibration. Your emotion does not create. Emotion is your indicator of what you are already creating. As you think, you vibrate. And it is your vibrational offering that equals your point of attraction. So it's always a match. What you are thinking and what is coming back to you is always a vibrational match. The emotion (your Guidance System) is telling you what's coming.

All Is Well...

BREEZA'S PAD......

Check out da Breeza's Uk pad.... Its a little self contained one bedroom bedsit with shower. The toilet is communal and there is one guy who lays stinky morning turds but it'll do until the Coltrain moves over to London and they can look for something more suitable. Its close to Bear n'Mez located 30 seconds from Mornington Cresent tube in the heart of Camden.

She's onna winner our Breeza.... She's also on very good form... as per usual.... Such a deeeeelight to be around...

Riga

We're coming!

Health Question & Answer Session

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this
true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't
waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up
your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can
extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer?
Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and
corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an
efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain?
Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy
vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily
allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine,
that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even
more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms
up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one.
If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular
exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil.
In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be
bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the
middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You
should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO ...... Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's
the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had
about food and diets.

And Remember: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways - a large cocktail in one hand - a large
joint in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and
screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

the thong slap rears its ugly head again

But this time in QLD. Imagine my surprise when this photo turned up post a big weekend. Strangely none of us present have any memory of the event or what we might have been doing at the time. What the?
And the real question: Is he or isn't he? ....naked that is.

V Festival -Gold Coast - April 1st 2007

The V festival was hit the Gold Coast yesterday. Despite somewhat negative reports from our agents in Sydney, who had attended their festival the previous day, regarding lengthy queues and having to shit in their own hands due to lack of facilities, we encountered no such problems. The location was beautiful, didn't wait once for a toilet, drinks etc. Intermittant rain, but richard branson kindly supplied ponchos resulting in the whole crowd turning orange. Musical highlights: Groove Armada - Soulwax - The Pixies - 2ManyDJ's. Standout being the Pixies (top right photo) - these guys nailed it. The sound was amazing and it was just great to be under under stars going off to such an iconic band that have been around since we were 16. These guys are legends for a reason, and we experienced it last night. Groove Armada's light show was phenomenal and Soulwax ripped it. Contrary to belief there were no pooches which meant jimbo had secreted all his party favours internally for no good reason. But he was smiling. And no festy is complete without a vomit in the limo bus on the way home. Best managed spew into a poncho we've ever seen, Nardine. Fixers on site : Tyler, Shagga, Sal, Hound, nardine, paul, kym, buddha, jimbo, ben, jamesy, beardsely, michelle, jarvis cocker.

Beyond the Drought Report

Well I'm quite happy to report that there are 3000 more trees growing in the world after BTD on the weekend. That's enough O2 for 6000 people - so breathe deep people, breathe deep. The punters came in droves and everyone got into the planting big time. We were gunning along those ripped and ready lines like we were going for gold in the tree planting olympics. And how chilled was it to be in the rolling hills with a great bunch of people making mud soup, getting dirty and getting trees in the ground with a bit of a laugh and a joke and just plain enjoying the fresh air and country vibe? Pumps worked his magic with stage set up, the music rocked and Woody ran a bar that had permanent happy hour (free booze). Does it get any better than that after an honest days planting? Brainsy's rain dance was so successful that it rained before she even started which was great for the trees but a little unexpected for the punters. Bluey and I were stoked with how well it went and how much everyone got into it ... the talk has begun for next year already so make a mental note that you gotta get down for it. Click on title for some more pictures of event.

WHO IS JACK SCHITT?

For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt? We find ourselves at a loss when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt!' Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way.

Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer Magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack.

In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt.

Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock.

Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in
a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Horse.

Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.

NOW when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt,' you can correct them.

Sincerely,
Crock O. Schitt

LOADS N' LOADS O' STUFF HAPPENING!

Well, its been a while..... With the help of Mickus I have finally been able to sort out a new account under google and get back on track to being a contributer on the Fix!

There's lots happening eh? What you might ask??
  • Manta Ray Jane, a beloved member of the Vic crew has finally left Aussie shores and hit the travelers highway over to South America. ARIBA ARIBA!! Rumour has it that she hit the airport, jumped a bus and was so tired that she actually thought everyone was talking english or she could somehow understand Spanish perfectly!! Nice one Jane, guess those diazapan worked eh??
  • Shagga is not long behind her and is soon to leave as well although she has yet to buy her air passage. She'll be in Vegas for the V Fesitval which will be her swan song so don't forget to catch her!!
  • Speaking of Shagga I spoke to Bluey a few moments ago and he mentioned that Shagga was on very good form last night. Apparently between a few of them they managed to polish off 7 bottles of red wine between them in which Shags probably drank around 5. She was found by the Salmeister around 1200 midnight off her chops with the red wine grin. Apparently she decided to wake Bluey up so jumped on him, broke her glass in his bed and proceeded to fall asleep in the wine stain!! Legendary Shags!!!
  • RUSTY is in town. Yes our Indian Darling is back, without hubby, and only for short time so be sure to see her if you can. I was one of the lucky ones who saw her Saturday night. She kept mentioning that it was really "quiet". Guess those taxis, rickshaws and chai sellers really are farking with her brain. We even saw the odd head wobble!! None the less what a treat...... Bring your boy next time Shazzy!!
  • The V Festival is only around the corner - Pixies, 2 Many Djs, Phoenix, Groove Armada, Gnarls Barkley, The Rapture, Beck, Soulwax , Jarvis Cocker and the list goes on... The only problem is choosing which bands you're not going to see. So far on the punter list we have Shagga, The Reds, Hound, Nardine, Jamesy, Beardsley, Salmeister, Jimbo and da Borg!!
  • Bluey, Shagga et al are once again hosting their 2nd Beyond the Drought this weekend. As we heard Shaggs has already demolished half the wine stock donated to the event. As you know this is the chance to plant some trees and really feel good about the environment! Good on you Gang!! GOOD LUCK and expect a full report.
  • It was also Mick's Birthday on the weekend. We managed to check out the very firsts ever TITANS match which despite the lost was good fun. It's Hounds in a couple of weeks so expect some trouble.
  • The Mcilroy's are also slowly relocating to London. They will joing forces with the Marks' and world demonation is on the table. Lots of people will be around the UK in July so its looks like a happening month. Who you might ask?? - Hound, Shagga, Salmeister and moi!!!

Well I had better get back to the grindstone. So much happening. Let the good times roll on!!

The thong slap

Ok, well you seem to have a few ideas for the last one. But consider that a warm up for the real event. This little beauty here had even the people that were present stumped. There is quite an explantion as to what is occurring, any takers?

Update

Hello fellow fixers!
I am so sorry we've been so quiet. I've started a mega update on our blog - mumbai-madness.blogspot.com. I'm not finished, and will continue it soon, lots of pics if you scroll down.
Keep writing on the fix, I miss knowing what is going on in Brisvegas and what cause I should be help get behind.
Bear & Mary, what is up with your site? I can't seem to get into it.
Col & Isa, Bear & Mary, we're planning to come to Riga as soon as flights are sorted, we'll let you know.
We bought an Enfield Thunderbird, picked it up yesterday. We're not going to publish info yet on our blog as we'll need to ease Mark's mum into knowing we have one. It is the most exciting thing to happen us here. Can't tell you the freedom we feel already. Mark is weaving with the traffic like a local already. Here are some shots. We only got it yesterday, more to come.
