128 DAYS to NEW YEAR'S EVE

Joke of the Week

An 80-year-old Arab lives close to New York City. He loves gardening and would love to plant potatoes in his veggie patch but he is alone old and weak. His only son lives and works and works in Paris so the old man sends his son an e-mail. He explains his problem as follows:

"My beloved son I am very sad because I cant plant potatoes in my garden. I am sure that if you were here you would have helped me to dig over the soil so I could plant my potatoes. Remember I love you, your father."

The following day the old man receives the following e-mail from his son:

"My beloved father, salaam alekgum (may God be with you in all things). PLEASE do not touch the garden It is there I have hidden "THE THING"! I love you Ahmed."

At 4.00pm the same day the US Army, The Marines, The FBI and the CIA visit the old man, take the garden apart, search every inch but cant find anything. Disappointed and somewhat weary they apologize and leave the house.

The next day the old man receives an e-mail from his son:

"My beloved father, I hope the garden is dug up for you by now and you can plant your potatoes. Thats all I could do for you at such short notice. I love you Ahmed."

For $50 you get two games of bowling a feed and two hours of free beer, preety good value. We have the two lanes closest to the bar booked for 11.30 pm so for more detailed info call Jamesy's place.

Thompson Goes Out with a Bang

Hunter S. Thompson never let anything get in the way of a good party. Not even death.

The legendary gonzo journalist, who committed suicide on Feb. 20 at age 67, was given a fitting send-off Saturday night as his ashes were blasted out of a cannon atop a 153-foot tower outside his Colorado home.

The ceremony, attended by more than 300 close friends and family, was not so much a funeral service than a grand finale honoring Thompson's tumultuous life as author, counter-culture icon and gadfly.

Among the invitation-only guests: Johnny Depp, who played Thompson in the 1998 feature film version of the author most famous novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Sean Penn, who's planning to adapt Thompson's cult classic The Curse of Lono to the big screen; and Bill Murray, who starred in the movie version of the author's Where the Buffalo Roam.

According to Thompson's only son, Juan, former Democratic presidential nominees John Kerry and George McGovern and singer Lyle Lovett were also on hand for the affair, which was closed to the public and the press.

Depp, a close friend of Thompson's, picked up the $2.5 million price tag for the extravaganza, which in the spirit of the late lamented's hard-living ways offered plenty of booze, mostly in the form of champagne toasts, and entertainment.

But the main attraction was definitely the scattering of Thompson's ashes, coming on the six-month anniversary of his death.

The tower, constructed adjacent to Thompson's home on Owl Farm just outside of Aspen, was built in the shape of a clenched fist grasping a peyote button (modeled after Thompson's logo). The canon sat on top.

With Japanese drummers building the suspense, the eccentric author's cremated remains were launched skyward at approximately 8:45 p.m., immediately followed by red, white, blue and green fireworks. The tower's emblem then flashed blue and green while speakers blared Bob Dylan's classic "Mr. Tambourine Man."

The party then reportedly kicked into high gear with the song "Spirit in the Sky" and also featured readings of selected Thompson works.

Earlier in the afternoon, about a hundred fans, some of whom had driven hundreds of miles, turned up outside the heavily guarded estate to toast their hero. And in keeping with the psychedelic vibe, they were greeted by--of all things--a robot festooned with Thompson's gonzo fist symbol.

"I'm here to celebrate Hunter S. Thompson," the robot said, per the Aspen Times.

When asked its name and hometown, the robot replied: "Hotshot. I built myself."

As it turned out, the robot's maker was actually a Thompson fan who controlled Hotshot remotely from a parked van bearing Nevada license plates.

In an interview with the Aspen Daily News, Juan Thompson said the celebration fulfilled the wish his father originally expressed in a 1978 BBC documentary, but was "bigger than he ever imagined."

Thompson's longtime illustrator, Ralph Steadman, disagreed.

"He'd probably say it wasn't quite big enough," Steadman told the Daily News.

CTA - Results Week 26

Another bad week for home teams with the Wallabies, Broncos and Lions all losing again this weekend, Cowboys managed to sneak home against the Raiders. Dragons have a bye next week and Broncos play Parra in the last round so the minor premiership is still well and truly up for grabs. Lions season looks to be over, sitting in 10th position and one round to play we need Essendon to beat Melbourne or Richmond to beat Geelong as well as us beating Saints so things aren't looking good.

Borgus was the outright winner this weekend with 11/16. Well done mate!
Jamesy with 22 matches remaining is in an almost unbeatable position for the title with nine clear wins of his closest rival.

OUT OF THE FRYING PAN

Well what can be said. Fresh out of the frying pan and into reality. Terminal 9 not a bad concept when a plausable alternative is the ekka. few but many signed on to a day of potential on this sunny day,a few drinks were required for a lead up to this match up.. Isa ,Male,Chantelle, and the trrain found themselves slamming a few in the wee hours of afternoon to prim up for wat was unknown.. A inspection of the freezer reminded me of a time when Hound dog called this place his own only tha65t he left a cooky with some funny looking seeds in it behind .{god loves Dogs]
Right taxi festival. Asked what my favorite line up would be ?? Answere Short beer line up.. not to be. battle on lucky hip flask was in tow.
First impressions were good with a new line up from Brissy called the ninja lovers on stage. Found out that they are only 2 months in the mix.Good luck guys.. Rock.
The great hope was mix master mike, who in my opinion would be better known as mixed up master mik, with no disrespect to his greatness underrated our state, to totaly carve up a couple of classic tracks with the back of his finger nails[smells like teen spirit, rage against the machine] Can do better mate. Not the brains behind Beastie Boys.Enough said great day good to see Josie,P and all the other mutants. Finished up with the prospect of winning freedom at the treasury , only drinks were the prize tonight.
In all the 2500 people who ventured down today left with high expectations of the future [no more than a Broncocs premiership] .Many flyers were spread for park life on 10/3 at the RNA so as a twisted parting.. Good Night Mutants

Mick'd up and Mess'd around

Been a while since I've had the time to pursue the things that mean most to me so when work rang to inform me I had worked my monthly limit in three weeks and to take the rest of the week off, what better way to start the week with a bit of sample spotting.

First stop grab a couple of high powered mutants and head to vegas central to stock up with weapons of mass destruction - music. Fabriclive 09 jumped out straight away as it reminded me of Borgus Erectus, as half the tracks were old favourites I use to listen to with the Borg, second cd acquired was the Art of Disco. Fellow mutant Jamesy lashed out and stocked himself with several weapons himself including Lil Louis's French Kiss, a cracker track which in it's day was as powerful as a nuclear bomb.

Thirsty work sample spotting so with little deliberation and the midday sun beaming down drinks was on order and what better place to start a session than Showgirls. Never been to Showgirls and what an impression, not only was it free to get in the girls didn't leave anything to the imagination. First special thanks goes to Holly - you rock and exceeded all expectations. I'll be back.

With a few beers under the belt next stop Jamesy's to listen to our new weapons and what weapons they were, so after a few hours of audio bliss and deep consultation with our mate Jim Beam it was time to take our American Beauty to work. Not satisfied with six hours of drinking we decided to head to the Story Bridge for dinner and a couple of quiet ones, while waiting for our partner in crime to finish work.

With the responsibility of attending a photo shoot at the Rocklea Markets at 8.30 am to help with a photo competition for a fellow freak Bear Skin Rug we discussed calling it a night, with that we called Bear to inform him not to worry we will see you in the morning, we won't let you down. See you tomorrow.

Feeling proud of our uncharacteristic sense of responsibility we became complacent and like flies to shit we headed to Paddington and the Velvet Cigar. Time was fast approaching 3.00 am and there was only one thing on my mind, no not being at rocklea in five hours time but getting to a dancefloor before Brisneylands curfew kicked in.

Fast approaching mutilation I couldn't get into any clubs (Fuck you Monestry) and ended up in some backpackers' bar which served its purpose and gave me the chance to get a boogie out of the way. Only one thing left to make the night complete and that's arguing with Jamesy all the way home in a cab over absolutely nothing. Arriving at Jamesy's I participated in another favourite past time, leaving something behind in the cab. Sticking my head into the cab to regather my possessions my sparring partner slammed my head drawing blood and knocking me off my feet. What better way to make a mate feel guilty after an argument than faking been knocked unconscious, it didn't work, hearing Jamesy giggling and the cabbie standing over me freaking out I thought it was time to cease acting and get up.

Now with only a few hours left to having to be at Rocklea what else was there left to do but down some tequila and finish listening to the rest of the music purchased 17 hours earlier.

Waking up two hours late for the photo shoot only compounded our hangovers, so off to West End for breakfast and beers. To be honest I can't remember the rest of Friday probably spent the day on Jamesy's couch watching the idiot box.

Surfacing Saturday and raring to go headed to Borgs for a quiet drink and show off my new weapons. Arriving I was dismayed to find out Borg already had my new proud possessions. Heidi was over preparing for her birthday bbq the next day making quiche and sangria when good ol' Isa Breeza showed up with a blender of filled with some sort of cocktail. God bless you Isa.

Next we headed to Col & Isa's to continue consuming and I must admit the conversations had by all was the highlight of the night. Cheers guys you all rock.

With Heidi's birthday bash the next day we pulled the plug around 3.00am, woke up early and headed for Roma St Parklands for a bbq that brought over 30 mutants together for a day of festivities that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. To the security dood who pulled down the volleyball net you suck tossa!!

Leaving the parklands I drove down the coast to celebrate Pino's birthday with a night on the Jim Beam followed by a day at Sea World. Had a fantastic day the highlight being the Polar Bears - awesome creatures.

Left the coast tuesday to attend a dinner party (with Bear & Astonville Muppet) at Jamesy's that night with the American Beauty cooking up a feast that would go down as one of the best meals I have ever had. Entree consisted of oysters and prawns followed by Barramundi wrapped in filo pastry accompanied with a rocket, pear, walnut and Parmesan salad. Truly amazing dinner.

Poet Pat provided cocktails and even performed some of his private poetry for us, the night was fantastic and i couldn't think of a better way to finish off an unforgettable week.

So to all those mutants who provided me with companionship, music, food, drugs and a bed over the week, thanks very much I loved every moment, without you guys life would be a bore.

Your all legends.

Album Review - Fabriclive 09

To my ears this is the most varied mix yet from Fabric, with Monsieur Lu Cont exploring the depths of electro house, breakbeat and soundtrack. On paper it ought not to work, but when listened to as a whole it all makes perfect sense.

The opening from Mirwais gets us started on an electro trip, and after tracks from Risan, Tom Tom Club and Chicken Lips (see what I mean?!) the Steve Miller Band's jaunty 'Abracadabra' gets the party up and running. Lu Cont then blends this perfectly into the hypnotic 'Give It Up' from Crazy Penis (remixed by Laid). If it's more quality house you're after, look no further than Tom Symmons' 'S&M'. If it's more old-school there's the excellent Hypnolove and Zoot Woman rocking the joint. We even get a shot of classical from Richard Strauss (his theme for 2001) where Lu Cont almost loses the plot, before somehow mixing out of this with Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams'. Closing with a bit of a rock fest, he employs Devo, Junior Sanchez and The Pixies.

This is almost a who's who of Lu Cont's influences, and he's somehow made it into a hugely enjoyable, coherent whole.

Currentlly being played by both the Paddington Possee and Cottenham Crew, so if this interests you, you know what to do.
